BORN IN SIERRA LEONE 3:280:00/3:28
𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:
Sir Spect was born in Sierra Leone, during the civil war of the early 1990s. At nine, he immigrated first to Lowell, Massachusetts, then later moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, before finally settling in Somerset, New Jersey, though summers often pulled him back to Somerset and Jersey City for family. In Lowell, he started turning pain into poetry, then at fourteen wrote his first rap bars during a talent show at school. Drawing from 2Pac’s activism,
Nas’ word play, and Lucky Dube’s story telling.
Spect created a sound highly East Coast influenced, Turning war scars and street politics into anthems for both the local and diaspora.
